Meet - Jacqueline Fryer Yokeley

Jacqueline was born in Orlando, Florida at a military base and had one sibling, a brother, Jimmy. They moved to Winston-Salem, NC during her preschool years where they all settled down in a small house. But due to financial issues and hardships, their mother was forced to place them both in a Children’s Home for their first two years of grade school. This was to supply adequate time for their mother to find employment and a new place for them to live. This left lifelong mental scares on them both but was necessary for their future.

Jacqueline and Jimmy grew up during the late sixties and seventies, which was a challenging time being the child of a divorced mom. The consequences were sometimes unbearable for them both, making it extremely hard to stay focused and be a good student. But Jacqueline was able to use her bad experiences as fuel to graduate high school and college. However, her brother was not so fortunate, his level of learning stopped at third grade, so he never learned to read or write.

Jacqueline graduated from RJ Reynolds High school while holding down two part time jobs and met her soul mate, Steve, while cruising the main roads after work.

Steve and Jacqueline have been happily married for 44 years, despite the normal difficulties of any marriage. They have two daughters, Kristy, the oldest who has Cerebral Palsy and the youngest, Michelle, who is a double first responder. She has been a Police Officer and an LPN. They have twin granddaughters, Brooke, and Shelly from their daughter Michelle. They all currently live on the same property in Wallburg, NC.

Once Jacqueline’s children were grown, she decided to get a college degree. She studied at Salem College, located in Winston-Salem, NC while working a full-time job. Her degree “Communication through Children’s Literature” was self-developed with the goal of getting young children excited about reading so they would not fall through the cracks like her brother, Jimmy. That is why Jacqueline’s passion is to make reading fun and exciting for young children.

Jacqueline’s hobbies include writing rhyming poems, like her favorite author Dr. Seuss, sewing, crafting, and playing multiple musical instruments. She currently plays the Piano, Ukulele, Mandolin, Classical Guitar, Mountain Dulcimer, and the Piccolo. Jacqueline plans to learn five more instruments during her retirement while sharing the love of Jesus with others through her music and writing!
